Shortlisting from a list of architectural firms in Kenya sorted by project type

Which Firms Are on the List of Architectural Firms in Kenya for Your Type of Project?

A long list of architectural firms in Kenya only helps if it’s sorted by what you’re building. A hotel developer and a parish building committee don’t need the same names, and most directories treat them as if they do.

This version groups the firms by project type, using the details already published in our guide to firms in Kenya and on our own project pages. Treat it as a first filter, then check each firm’s own portfolio.

Which firms suit which projects?

Project type Firm Basis for the match
Large commercial towers and institutional landmarks Triad Architects & Planners (founded 1963) Parliament Buildings and Britam Tower
Hospitality and urban planning Symbion Group (founded 1980) Villa Rosa Kempinski and regional hospitality projects
Mixed-use and commercial Planning Systems Services Ltd (founded 1978) Commercial work and an interior design spin-off
Healthcare, education and hospitality Beglin Woods Architects A Kenyan and international partnership model
Institutional master planning Mutiso Menezes International A long-running Nairobi practice
Residential and boutique commercial Waweru & Associates African design influence in housing and commercial work
Churches, schools, offices and parking structures Trioscape Space Planning Ltd (founded 1994) Village Shrine of Mary, Mt Carmel Girls’ block, Avenue 5 Rose Avenue, Holy Family silo

Founding years appear only where our guide states them. Check every firm’s current registration and recent work yourself.

Shortlisting from a list of architectural firms in Kenya sorted by project type

Why sort by project type at all? Because the same firm can be excellent on one building and average on another. A hospitality specialist may never have run a school campus, and an institutional practice may have little to show on a boutique villa. Sorting by type stops you from comparing firms on the wrong ground, and it keeps your shortlist short.

How to use the list in four steps

Start by naming your project type and rough scale. Pick two or three firms from the matching rows. Ask each one for three completed projects like yours and a copy of their registration numbers. Then compare their stages and fees side by side. Our best architectural firms scorecard gives you the questions.

Questions to ask every firm on the list

Question Why it matters
Can I see three completed projects like mine? A match in type and scale is the best predictor of a smooth job
Which registered architect will sign my drawings? The county expects a registered professional behind the submission
When do the engineers join? Early coordination avoids redesign once approvals are underway
What does the fee include? Drawings, tender support and site supervision are often priced separately
Who attends site and how often? Quality problems usually appear during construction, not on paper

Notice that none of these questions depends on which row of the first table a firm sits in. They work for every name, and they show you quickly who has a real process.

What no list can tell you

A list can’t tell you whether a firm is registered today, whether the partner you meet will run your job, or whether its fee covers site supervision. Those answers come from a conversation. We explain how to verify registration in our post on registered architectural firms in Kenya, and you can see how we work on our about us page.

We’ve worked with over 15 major institutions since we began as Trioscape Architects in 1994, so if your project is institutional, ask us for references as you would any other firm.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best list of architectural firms in Kenya?

The best list is one sorted by your project type. Start with the firms matching your building, then verify each one’s registration and portfolio.

How many architectural firms are there in Kenya?

We don’t have a verified count. The Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors keeps the public record of registered practitioners and firms.

Are the firms in this list ranked?

No. They’re grouped by project type, not ranked.

Does the list include small firms?

It features established practices. Smaller studios can be excellent for smaller jobs, so ask for references from them too.

How often should I check a firm’s details?

Each time you shortlist. Registration, staff and recent projects change.

Used well, a list of architectural firms in Kenya narrows your search to two or three names that match your project. The rest is checking registration, visiting finished work and comparing fees.
